C. Thywissen GmbH is a specialist for innovative raw materials from oilseeds and malt. Since 1839, the family-owned company has been dedicated to the extraction of vegetable oils and chemical raw materials.

The theme of innovation runs through the company's history as a common thread, and with the most modern production processes, all components of the vegetable raw material are utilized today.

The introduction of the Yard Management System optimized the loading processes. The system was quickly accepted by the shippers, as the multilingual menu navigation mi-nimized the problems in communicating with the truck drivers.

Challenge

Where innovation is a tradition, it logically does not stop at the logistical processes. For this reason, OAS AG was commissioned to develop a yard management concept for the logistical processes of C. Thywissen GmbH.

The aim was to increase measurement accuracy during loading, reduce the workload of employees on site and consistently digitize the entire logistics documentation. Due to the limited space between the docks in the port of Neuss, this yard management project was also an interesting challenge in terms of traffic logistics.

Solution

Loading processes at the Thywissen factory premises were significantly improved by the introduction of an OAS Yard Management System.

To increase measurement accuracy in the loading process, six new truck scales for direct determination of the loading weight were installed at the loading points, thus switching from mass flow measurement to weighing technology.

Two newly installed multilingual registration terminals (Logistic Terminal SWB) with pager output for the outside area and six new loading terminals (Logistic Terminal SBD-T) for independent loading and monitoring by the driver have consistently introduced the self-service principle and thus permanently relieved the company's own employees. Documentation is carried out digitally via connection to existing ERP and process control system.

"The system delivered by OAS has fully met our expectations. Communication and processes have improved enormously since then," reports Daniel Sengpiel.

The customer‘s benefits

  • Minimizing communication problems through multilingual operator guidance at logistic terminals
  • Reduction in the error rate, as fewer manual entries are made overall
  • Increase in vehicle throughput by 20%
  • Complete process documentation with time stamp
  • Documented safety instruction for drivers
  • Assurance of the quality standard through reproducible processes
  • Greater flexibility in handling due to the possibility of weighing directly at the loading point
