Turbulent airflows – innovative application of disinfectants and preservatives to surface

As legal requirements have changed, the CLP Regulation will be further implemented, and the standards to be satisfied to get quality labels have increased, the producers of water-based products have been forced for a long time already to change their practice of disinfection and preservation of equipment. Most of today's systems are not suitable for the use of state-of-the-art disinfectants and preservatives due to their functional capacity or too high a load onto the finished product.

Therefore, the companies THOR and OAS have created a joint plant and service concept to completely satisfy the operating parties' demands.

Bremen, March 2015 – Plant hygiene is a special issue particularly regarding the high requirements to be met to get hallmarks of good quality and the amendments regarding the duty of labelling for finished products. Preservation – nowadays often carried out manually – requires high expenditure and also involves risks for the employees. Conventionally stationary systems often conduct too high a degree of preservatives, which are not applied to the surface of units but enter the stored medium. This applies to spray nozzles as well as to conventional atomising systems.

Further room for improvement shows the poor wetting of surfaces and the non-functional ventilation and air extraction control inside the units.

OAS AG in Bremen in cooperation with the Thor GmbH in Speyer, have developed a sound concept to correct this. The newly developed module system (DK module) generates as a basic function an aerosol. Through selective turbulent airflows microdroplets of this aerosol are applied to the entire surface. This considerably reduces the entry of disinfectants and preservatives into the stored medium and the total amount of agents required is reduced to a minimum as the application onto surfaces has been improved.

The mobile or semi-stationary system can be used in running production and is suitable for a use with different disinfectants and preservatives. As the system is closed, the personnel is protected in a reliable manner.

OAS AG presents the DK module on this year's European Coatings Show. Further topics at our stand (building 6, stand 242)
