Innovative revitalisation of a traditional production site

The aim of being able to offer its customers the widest possible range of high-quality products placed the highest demands on the production plant to be planned and its control system. In addition, the new plant was to be integrated into an existing historical building infrastructure. This desire to innovatively revitalise a traditional production site was a particularly exciting challenge for the planning departments in the plant engineering and process automation departments. A tight schedule and the simultaneous product transfer from the previous plant at the end of the construction phase also required the engineering to be synchronised with the structural adaptation of the production site.

As an integrated project partner, OAS AG was able to demonstrate its entire expertise in the handling of bulk materials and liquid media as well as in the interaction with process automation in this project. In addition to inline dispersion, the most modern production process, the system designed for VPL Coatings utilises conventional dispersion by means of dissolvers and mixing. The required product diversity was successfully realised using three parallel production lines. The OAS pronto process control system controls the entire production process from material delivery to filling into tanker lorries, IBCs, drums and hobbocks. Future expansion options have already been planned into the available installation space.

The target schedule of 12 months from planning to completion was met, even against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic and several delays in the necessary structural adaptation of the existing building.
